As I receive many requests for an introduction to what I share as "Sashiko", this page serves as a summary—your one-stop resource for all things related to Sashiko and Atsushi.
I will do my best to keep all the information up to date. If you can’t find the information you’re looking for, please don’t hesitate to let me know, and I’ll be happy to add it.
Thank you so much for your interest, and I hope to continue sharing the story of Sashiko to preserve its culture and practice.

Learn Sashiko from Atsushi & other Japanese Sashiko Artisans
This is a list of learning opportunities for Sashiko with Atsushi, starting in 2025 and beyond. We offer an online class to teach the "Core & Essence", as well as in-person workshops that begin with "Core & Essence" and, for multi-day workshops, progress to "Application & Practice".
To begin learning Our Sashiko properly, everyone must first complete the "Core & Essence". The introductory course on Domestika is an excellent starting point to understand the basics of what we share, and I highly recommend it as a first step. However, to fully embark on your Sashiko journey with us, please consider taking the "Core & Essence" class, either online or in person.

Recommendation for Supplies
We recommend using specific supplies & tools for our Sashiko. There are many stories for each item why we keep using for a while, and it is very important for us to keep the Sustainable Circuration. No matter how skilled one becomes, Sashiko takes hours of time in hand-stitching. To reward the time & effort spent, we strongly hope that these specific recommended supplies & tools will be chosen & appreciated.
Sashiko Thread
Thread does matter in Sashiko. We offer the best Sashiko threads for the purpose of our Sashiko. You can find more stories explaining why Sashiko Thread matters so much.
- Traditional Sashiko Threads
- Natural Dye Sashiko Thread (Same Thread as Traditional Sashiko Thread - just dyed with Natural Ingredience)
Video about [Why Sashiko Thread?] on Youtube.
Sashiko Needles and Thimble
It is important to understand why we use very specific needle & thimble for the type of Sashiko we practice.
Fabric for Sashiko
We try our best to preserve the authentic Japanese Fabric mill where they produce the best fabric for Sashiko Stitching practice.
- Indigo Dyed Fabric - Cotton 100%
- The Choice is limited, but we have the same fabric with pattern preprinted (ready to stitch).
