I prepare a Package for anyone who wish to start Sashiko with following our philosophy and technique. I appreciate your interest in our Sashiko among so many choices offered in many languages, yet by those have limited understanding of what Japanese Sashiko is like. Your Choice will contribute to our Sashiko's Cultural Sustainability. Thanks to your choice, I can keep sharing the Sashiko Stories as well as Supplies/Tools we use everyday.
In the package, you can find everything we use in our daily Sashiko Stitching. I do NOT include a "Step-by-Step" direction in the package. I believe that offering "Rules" can cause the misunderstanding when one learns Sashiko without personal & proper attention. That being said, I include a letter in the package to navigate. Please take a look at it & proceed your Sashiko with many Tutorials on Youtube Video.

*Learning The [Core & Essence] of Sashiko, we call it "Unshin", with my personal attention is available Online or In-Person Workshop. One can learn Unshin by just watching the Videos on Youtube - but to avoid detour or avoiding to have "habit", please consider taking the Class. When you take the Class, this Starter Package will be unnecessary.
What is included in Sashiko Starter Package in 2024?
They are all you would need to enjoy Sashiko like we do. Please find the explanation for each items in the Package.
Materials to prepare the patterns
The first step in Sashiko is to prepare the pattern on the fabric. It isn't stitching and you may find it less preferable. However, it is extremely important to learn how to prepare (transfer or draw directly) the pattern on the fabric.
We offer variety of "Pattern Pre-Printed Fabric (Pattens are washable off)". It is for your convnience - so please learn how to do it first, then please choose based on "your choice". There is significant difference between "Can't" and "Don't", and I do not want you to limit your Sashiko based on "Can't".
- A piece of Mylar Paper
- A piece of Carbon Paper (Chalk Paper)
- 4 kinds of Geometric Patterns

Available Patterns
In the package, you find 4 geometric patterns often used in Japanese Sashiko Setting. You may photocopy them before using for your own purpose (please do not offer others or sell commertially).
The name of each patterns are (left to right on the photo)

Fabric suitable for Sashiko
In the package, you will find 2 kinds of Cotton fabric woven in Japan. The Dark one is Indigo Dyed Cotton Fabric (SCR_100), and we find it the best fabric for Sashiko both experience in Usnhin & result of stitches. Another fabric is thin cotton fabric - and it is good when you want to enjoy Sashiko with smaller patterns. Often, I use the Dark Indigo Fabric as "Front/Showing" side of the project, and use another fabric as backing or lining to cover the "Wrong Side" of main fabric.
Fabric Size: About 28" x 11"

Other Key Supplies & Tools for Sashiko.
The Package include other important & essential Supplies & Tools for Sashiko. We have reasons for these items.
Sashiko Threads
One of the most important Supplies in Sashiko is the Threads. The Thread Matters in Sashiko. For more details, I have a separate Blog Article.
Purchase our Sashiko Thread Separately.
Why 2 kinds of Sashiko Threads?
In this package, you will receive 2 kinds of Sashiko Threads. One is our Traditional Sashiko Threads with the explanation above. Another Sashiko Thread is manufactured long-established thread company "Yokota" with the brand name of "Daruma". This thread is widely available in many countries unlike our Threads are very limited in availability. The reason we add this "Thinner" thread is that you may stitch small patterns, or "tightly woven" fabric.
If you find our Traditional Sashiko thread too thick, please use the Yokota Sashiko Thread (thin) to see if stitches turn out better.
Sashiko Needles
We use one specific needle manufactured for the specific purpose of our Sashiko. There are reasons why we keep using this needle daily. Please find another Blog Article for the reasons. It will make your stitching for easy & more comfortable.
Sashiko Thimble
In Sashiko, a thimble is optional. Many Sashiko teachers teach Sashiko without thimble. However, in "Our Sashiko", the thimble is the Must Have Item. To learn how to use the thimble with proper "Form (Kata)", please consider taking the Online Sashiko Class or In-Person Sashiko Workshops.
Also, a video of me stitching with the thimble is available on Youtube & Sashiko Live Streaming
A Set of Needles and Thimble is available here.
Along with these nessary items, you will recieve:
- Chalk Pencil (to reinforce the patterns you transfer on dark fabric).
- Paper Bobbin for a skein of Sashiko Thread (A Youtube Video explaining how to keep Sashiko Thread in a good shape).
- Circle Plate & Card for Introductory Course on Domestika. We have a Special Package to offer everything I use in the Domestika Course here (with or without Gift Code) - but this Package will cover almost all items to the Domestika Course Pacakage. Only One item not overrapping is the Basting Thread to bast the patches on the Garment.
