Arranging a Sashiko Workshop or Lecture with Atsushi: Requirements, Expectations & Fee Estimates
Are you interested in offering a Sashiko workshop or lecture for your organization, guild, shop, museum, or private group?
Atsushi Futatsuya provides customized Sashiko workshops and presentations that focus not only on stitching techniques, but also on the culture, stories, and perspectives that have shaped Sashiko in Japan.
Born into a Sashiko family in Takayama, Japan, Atsushi has spent his life learning, practicing, and sharing Sashiko. His teaching approach emphasizes both the technical skills and the cultural context that support the practice.
Workshops can be arranged for quilting guilds, textile groups, educational institutions, museums, community organizations, and private gatherings interested in learning more about Sashiko.

Available Formats
In-Person Workshops
In-person workshops are available throughout the United States and Japan. Depending on scheduling, travel logistics, and local requirements such as work permit, international workshops may also be possible.
Programs can range from introductory lectures to multi-day immersive learning experiences.
Virtual Workshops
Live online workshops may be available for organizations and groups around the world. Virtual sessions offer an opportunity to learn directly from Atsushi regardless of location while maintaining an interactive learning environment.
Because Sashiko involves posture, rhythm, hand movement, and specific tools, not every workshop can be offered effectively online. Virtual workshops are generally available for lectures and selected hands-on learning opportunities. Class size may also be limited so that Atsushi can observe participants and provide meaningful feedback.
Some advanced or practice-based workshops may not be available in a virtual format unless participants have already completed Core & Essence and understand the basic form of Sashiko introduced in Atsushi’s teaching.
*For the Virtual Workshops, there are some limitations. Please read the Fee Estimates & Conditions linked below.
Workshop Structure
Beginning in 2026, Core & Essence serves as the foundation for all workshop offerings.
This workshop introduces the essential elements of Sashiko, including posture, rhythm, tool usage, preparation, and the cultural perspectives that support the practice.
Because other workshops build upon these fundamentals, Core & Essence is required before arranging additional workshop topics.
