In-Person Sashiko Class, Workshop & Retreat

We offer in-person Sashiko classes to pass down the most important element of the Sashiko we practice—what we call the Core & Essence. While my availability is limited, as I also wish to spend time focusing on my own stitching, it is my sincere hope to continue offering these classes whenever possible.

 

In-Person Sashiko Class Schedule for 2026

In 2026, Atsushi Futatsuya will continue offering opportunities to learn the Core & Essence of Sashiko through in-person workshops, retreats, and online classes. Rooted in Japanese tradition, these gatherings go beyond technique to share the mindset and philosophy that sustain Sashiko.

  • QuiltCon 2026 (Raleigh, NC – Feb 19–22): Workshop on the Core & Essence of Sashiko at the world’s premier modern quilting event.

  • Madeline Island School of the Arts (WI – July 13–17): A 5-day immersive retreat covering both Core & Essence and Application & Practice, open to both first-time and returning participants.

All of the in-person Sashiko Workshops and Retreats for this year have come to a close. Each gathering was more than just an event—it was a circle of hands, stories, and stitches woven together. I am filled with gratitude for those who joined me in these shared moments, and I carry each memory forward like threads in a larger fabric.

I look forward to meeting you again—whether you have already walked this path with me, or whether you are just beginning your journey with Sashiko. In 2026 and beyond, may our stitches continue to connect us, one gathering, one story, and one thread at a time.
