Sashiko Classes, Workshops & Retreats in 2027

Sashiko Classes, Workshops & Retreats in 2027

As we begin 2027, I am grateful to continue sharing Sashiko with people in different places and communities. Each year, these workshops give me opportunities not only to teach stitching, but also to spend time together, exchange stories, and explore what Sashiko can mean in our lives today.

My workshops focus on more than completing patterns or learning individual techniques. I place importance on the rhythm, posture, tools, and way of thinking that form the foundation of the Sashiko I practice. Through the Core & Essence of Sashiko, I hope participants can experience a way of stitching that may feel different from what they have encountered before.

In 2027, I will again offer several in-person workshops and retreats in the United States, along with my first series of workshops in Australia. I am looking forward to reconnecting with returning participants and meeting many new stitchers along the way.

Sashiko Class, Workshop & Retreat in 2027

Taught by Atsushi Futatsuya – Japanese Sashiko Artisan

These workshops are designed for those who would like to learn Sashiko with a deeper understanding of its foundation. Rather than focusing only on the finished appearance of the stitches, I introduce the process, rhythm, and approach that support the practice.

Still Unsure?

If you would first like to become familiar with my approach to Sashiko, you can begin with the Sashiko Introductory Course available on Domestika.

This course offers an introduction to my way of teaching and some of the background behind the Sashiko I practice. It is different from the Core & Essence workshop, but it can be a useful first step.

Why Learn Sashiko in These Workshops?

Sashiko is often recognized by its patterns and visible stitches, but much of the practice exists in the movement and process behind them.

In my workshops, I place particular emphasis on Unshin, the running-stitch movement that supports the Sashiko I have practiced for many years. By learning the basic posture, use of the thimble, rhythm, and movement, participants can build a foundation that they can continue to develop after the workshop.

My intention is not to define one correct form of Sashiko. Instead, I hope to share the perspective and practice that I inherited, together with the cultural background that gives those techniques context.

I look forward to stitching with you in 2027.
