Thank you for your interest and support in helping bring this book into the world.
Sashiko: The Untold Story is a personal exploration of Sashiko beyond technique, pattern, or trend. Rooted in my experience growing up with Sashiko in Japan, this book shares the history, philosophy, and cultural context that have shaped the practice for generations.
Through stories, reflections, photography, and examples of stitching, I invite readers to look beyond the surface of decorative hand-stitching and discover the mindset behind Sashiko. Rather than presenting it only as a skill to learn, this book explores how Sashiko developed through everyday life, necessity, and care for fabric and community.
In a time when Sashiko is often simplified or separated from its origins, this book offers an opportunity to reconnect with the deeper meaning behind the practice. It is a guide for those who wish to understand not only how Sashiko looks, but why it exists—and what may be found in the space between the stitches.
This is the book I hope many “Sashiko Practitioners” will read before or while enjoying Sashiko. Anyone can enjoy Sashiko, and I hope this “profound & deep practice” will be preserved so that we may continue to enjoy it even 100 years from now.
The book is now available. At this time, shipping from this store is available only within the United States. For those outside the U.S., please check this link to see whether a local retailers or Online Book Retailers may carry the book.
Due to the nature of signed books, returns will be limited unless the item arrives damaged. If the book arrives damaged, we will go through the shipping insurance process.
Personally, I prefer to receive books with as little damage as possible. For this reason, I created a “Book Mailer” option. The additional cost is reflected in the book price to help cover upgraded shipping materials. If minor damage is not a concern, the book will be packed in a clear bag and shipped in a vinyl mailer. In either case, please note that any damage claims must go through the shipping insurance process, which may take some time to resolve. Shipping insurance is included.

After Note
I receive quite a bit of feedback from those who choose to purchase the book directly from me in order to support the author as much as possible. I sincerely appreciate that generosity.
At the same time, my goal is to spread this book to as many people as possible. Because our store requires shipping fees and does not offer discounts, the total cost may be higher than purchasing from larger retailers. I do not feel uncomfortable with using Amazon in a reasonable way, so if you wish to avoid shipping fees or take advantage of seasonal discounts, please feel free to check the Amazon link below.
